MozNP 2nd anniversary

The Day Overloaded with Awesomeness ( Mozilla Nepal 2nd Anniversary )

MozNP 2nd anniversary

Mozilla Nepal Second Anniversary

“Will you like to join us on 26th August ?” ,  It was Avash Mulmi a Rep from Mozilla Nepal, this was the question from where it all started, my reply was, YESSS!!! i will love to. From that very day i was eager to get involved in this event through any medium and fortunately a second message from Avash Mulmi came on 3rd August, “Pack your stuffs, Event approved”.

An adrenaline rush was there within my nervous system, i started planning for the event along with other Mozillians. Since that very day i was in contact with many of the Mozillians to discuss about the event, i came to know that this time it was not only about the celebration but also about achieving some serious goals :-

  • At least 3  apps
  • 30 makes using Webmaker
  • 1000 string localization

On 25th August i board my flight from Simara Airport, Nepal for Kathmandu, Nepal. Even the 20 minutes journey was feeling like journey of hours, all due to my excitement and eagerness to meet awesome Mozillians out there.
After reaching Kathmandu, i informed Surit Aryal another Rep From Mozilla Nepal about my arrival, and i came to know he was busy in managing things for the next day event.
I was not new to Kathmandu so i managed my way to the Hotel (Hotel Aryal International )that was Booked for me and other Mozillians from outside the valley. Thanks to Mozilla Nepal for taking care of our comfort and managing all kind of accommodation and traveling.

After getting refreshed at hotel i got a message from one of the Participants from outside the valley, Ujjwal Hatuwal Mozillian from Hetauda had arrived Kathmandu too. I asked him to call me after he reach to the nearest place to hotel, after 35-40 min i got back his call and went to receive him .

We were soon joined by the Organizers/Reps of Mozilla Nepal Surit aryal and Avash Mulmi at our hotel. From there we went to our Event venue SAP Falcha where few other Mozillians were getting all the things done for the event, the main Focus was on the internet. After setting all the things well for the event, we left out, Avash Da and MJT  Da went for shopping (they were shopping for the event not for themselves 😉 ).
After that we all went for an awesome dinner, which i think was the most lively and fine dine that i had till now.
After dinner we all went back to our respective destination.

Finally the day arrived (26th August), me and ujjwal had decided to reach a little bit earlier than other participants but we could manage up reaching the venue just on time 😛 .

The event kicked off in a simple and cool manner, Madhuri welcomed the participants and gave a short and quick overview about the event.

We had took reach the goals so all the participants were grouped into 3 different teams namely, Webmaker team, Firefox OS app Dev Team and Localization team. Participants were free to join any team willingly on the basis of their interest and working area.

The App dev team and Webmaker team sat down at room one and started there work with full enthusiast, the Localization team went to room 2 and started there work too.

Talking about the number of members in each team, localization team had more number of members than other two teams, then was the App dev team and at last  Webmaker team with just 3 members.
The event soon gained the pace, soon there came a time when tap and click was the only sound in the room.

The organizers had taken care about the refreshments of the participants, throughout the event we had lots and lots of snacks, chocolates, tea/coffee, cold drinks (they probably knew coders need caffeine 😉 😀 …. ).

After 7 hours long coding and conversion of strings, we finally came to end of event . Localization and App dev team had reached there goals, although they had 3 members only Webmaker team also did a wonderful job (am not backing up Webmaker team because i was one of them 😛 😛 ).

All the outputs of the event are listed in this blog.

After the wrap up an awesome dinner was waiting for the Mozillians, the dinner was the cherry on the cake for the whole day event.
The laughter, PJs, Photo snaps, all these things along with tasty food and lots of Drinks made each and mozillian feel revived.

“Building the Web” ( 3 Days Camp on HTML, CSS, Webmaker…..)

Building the web” a 3 days workshop on HTML, CSS, HTML5, JavaScript, Webmaker tools(Thimble, Popcorn, X-Ray goggle) and Google tools(Search, Drive, mail etc) was jointly conducted by NIMOZ Firefox Club and Google Developers Group Birgunj .

Venue: National Infotech College, Birgunj, Nepal

Date: 30th Jan 2014 to 1st Feb 2014

The first 2 days of workshop focused on teaching the attendees about HTML, CSS, HTML5 and  JavaScript.

On the very first day NIMOZ Firefox club launched a new way to spread words about Open Source and Mozilla, we started “Open Bulletin Board” at our college campus, in this approach we will be simply putting short templates on our notice board at regular intervals, these templates will contain information about various Open source Software and projects as well as about Mozilla.

On the third day NIMOZ Firefox Club introduced attendees to Webmaker and Firefox Developer toolbar.

The third day session for Webmaker and Developer toolbar was carried out by Aman Routh (NIMOZ Firefox Club Lead) along with Neha Gupta (FSA from NIMOZ) and Arati Singh (FSA from NIMOZ).

Seeing some cool remixes being performed in-front of their eyes, the attendees enthusiasm and interest reached to peak.
They were amazed to see how easily they can change content of any site by using X-Ray Goggle. Thimble showed them new way to build cards and greetings exactly  in the way they liked so that they can express their feelings with the remix, popcorn tool brought out curious artist within them.

The 3D view tool in Developer Toolbar amazed them most they all started laughing and applauded for us, we got some remarkable comments from them, here we have tried to list few of them

Here are few words spoke by attendees after watching the remixes:

  • “I am in love with Firefox now”.
  • “Thank you for this workshop, now we really feel we can hack the web”.
  • “Finding errors in code with Developer toolbar console is so easy, teacher never told us that we can debug HTML and JavaScript in that way”.
